Supplemental Blogging Topics
All bloggers face the enormous pain that is writer’s block at some point in their blogging journey. A good way to keep you from doing anything drastic, like quit, is to keep a list of topics. Call them writing prompts or starting points. Call them vanilla ice cream. Just be sure to keep them handy.
I call these supplemental Blogging Topics because you really don’t want to have these be the only content on your blog. Or maybe you do. It is your blog. I would use these to fill in the blanks when your regular content is stuck somewhere in your head and you can’t dislodge it. Or to throw in a little fun for your readers.
Enough of the chit chat. Here is a good list to get you going:
- Top 10 (or 3 or 5 or 425) Lists - These could be personal, such as Things That Make Me Cry/Laugh, or they can be business/content related, such as My Favorite Products. The list could go on and on. What’s that, you want me to go on? Ok. Here’s some more random words that you can use to build a list - books, blogs, magazines, forums, make up, accessories, stretches, exercises, websites, movies, affiliates, customers, uses for a product, places not to advertise, places to shop, foods to eat, foods to avoid, alien baby names…you get the point.
- Random Numbers of Facts - These are random bits of information, whether it be about you, your products or the start of your business. Something like “Thirteen Times Lucky Black Cats Almost Went Out of Business.”
- Reviews - People, for the most part, are dependent. We like to rationalize it as not wasting our money, but you know we just don’t want to be the person who first licked the frozen pole on the playground. Reviews solve that dilemma. They reassure us that we are making the right choice or change our minds. You can write reviews on just about anything. If you can have an opinion on it, you can write a review.
- Tip Lists - Short and sweet. What works. What doesn’t. New ways to use things. Tips on how to buy a washer/dryer. Tips on how to ride a bike. Tips on how to reduce waste. Tips on making the perfect quiche.
- Trivia - Useless and random, like the zipper was invented on the same day that King FrooFroo took his first steps. Or not-so-useless and not-so-random, like, did you know that Skin So Soft can be used as bug repellent on children? This is another short and sweet topic. Today in history is a good place to start
These five topics can be reworked again and again. You may start on one and suddenly find the flood gates have opened and you are now writing “real” posts. Or they may just provide a little break for the gray matter. Happy Blogging!
